ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: Chris, for many years you have been influential person on drum'n'bass worldwide stage, you have been shaping drum'n'bass, signing tunes of most talented artists on Renegade Hardware, Lifted Music & Barcode Recordings. How has it happened that you decided to set up your own label? What was the idea to create Lifted?

Chris Renegade: The Question everybody asks first. Why did i leave? What happened? Did you have a gun fight with Clayton? haha, no. I left TOV Music group to start Lifted Music, the In's and Out's of how it came about is unfortunately, private business between Clayton (Director of Hardware & Barcode) and I.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: For the moment there are four EP's released on your label. How would you describe the sound of Lifted in few words?

Chris Renegade: A Few Words - Progressive, Different, New, Exciting, Quality, With, Good, Engineering.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: What would you say to people who are asking – what uniqueness is in idea and action of Lifted comparing to other drum'n'bass labels? What makes it different than other labels?

Chris Renegade: We really try to push Lifted Music with the highest quality control we possibly can with tunes, artwork, general professionalism of the label to our in-house booking agency. All we're trying to do here is push the music forward and push a sound people haven't heard 100 times before.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: Which style of presenting artists would you like to spread as Lifted label - individualism or collaboration?

Chris Renegade: We are tight crew, and good friends. Of course each artist and DJ needs there own presentation, and Lifted Music is the perfect platform for expression.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: What are your plans for further expansion of Lifted in the next couple of years? As head of label, could you tell us also what can we expect from Lifted this year?

Chris Renegade: Plenty more good music from the current artists, as well as some big remixes. I can't predict the future, but I can promise you we're not letting up.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL:  Jon, what is your vision of Lifted and you as part of it?

Spor: It's a pleasure to work with talented people and to be able to exist as our own entity and collective. Lifted is a lifestyle for us now really, it's our whole lives and so to have something you love doing merge with your career is a privelidge. Vision? Harder, Better, Stronger I think....

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: You have quickly risen to the forefront worldwide drum'n'bass producer. How long have you been searching for your own, unique style? Do you feel that you have found the real expression of it already?

Spor: It's difficult to judge your own style. I have certain characteristics I want my music to communicate, but it's open to public intepretation whether I achieve that or not. I'm definitely enjoying production more than I ever have.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: In what way would your style change in future?

Spor: I'd like the opportunity to explore a more varied sound. To a certain extent I need to cater for the dancefloor and our 'sound' as a unit, but hopefully some upcoming opportunities should allow for a bit more creative freedom. Squeezing as much music into a given criteria as possible is always a fun challenge though.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: By which producers and what music were you influenced in the past? And nowadays?

Spor: When I was approaching production, Squarepusher, Ram Trilogy, Prodigy. Nowadays it's much more varied, I tend to look for music that has little or no relation to what I'm involved in, I find I can connect with it with far more unbiased ears.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and projects that you are currently working on? What can we expect from you this year?

Spor: Plenty more to come on Lifted, two singles will be the next releases. Collaborations with Noisia and Lifted Crew also. Remixes for Bad Company and Calyx & Teebee, excited about those too, as well as the Division records. Oh and more Podcasts...

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL:  What have been your proudest production and DJing moments so far? Do you feel that you have achieved a level of success that you can be proud of?

Spor: I try to just take things as they come. I'm hugely grateful to be able to live and work as a musician at all, so to really be able to push my own sound and ideas and play to crowds is fantastic. Production wise, I would say some of the new things I've been working on have been some of the most rewarding for me as a producer.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: There are lots of young heads fascinated with production. What advice would you give to them as experienced producer?

Spor: Take your time! It's much better to submit one stunning demo track than 4 or 5 okay ones. We get so much material where things are 'almost' there. There's a huge amount of talent out there though, and the standard is rising.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: Chris, there are many young heads determined to work seriously in music business. What advice would you give to them as experienced manager, label owner?

Chris Renegade: It's a whole lot of hard work. If you're not focused enough and don't have the true love for music - don't try it in an attempt for some fame or success. It's taken us a long time to get where we are now, with hours and hours of hard grafting. My best advise would be to try and push something a little different to everyone else, and make sure it's done to the highest of your ability. correction to perfection.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: What are your feelings about worldwide drum and bass development these last  couple of years?

Chris Renegade: I'd prefer not to go into it. In my opinion there's some good Drum & Bass out there, but not much at all. I find it hard to complete my DJ Box with tracks i'm feeling should be the standard in Drum & Bass production.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: What do you think are current strengths and weaknesses of the scene?

Chris Renegade: With the scene going more and more worldwide, the parties are just getting bigger and better. As far as the scenesters in control, i think there is too many people that don't know what they're doing, trying to take control somewhat. I also feel allot of the older Scene (not to mention names) haven't kept up with the new sound, and get away with repeating the same draw out formula that they know will work on the dancefloor. [..] i could chat about the scene forever.

ELECTRONICMUSIC.PL: The future of drum'n'bass. What would you say for that?

Chris Renegade: It been around to long to fall off like Garage did, or Dubstep might. I think as long as there is innovation about, it can at least last my lifetime!

Spor: Very bright I think; it's such an evolving scene, you can never predict too much. But that's why we love it...
